Hypertension like diabetes is a silent killer. It does not have any visible signs or symptoms to identify it. You do not run a temperature to think something is wrong. There is no pain for you to feel that you are ill. In fact everything would be normal till some catastrophic event occurs suddenly.

Most people get it diagnosed when they do a routing health check up or when they are checked for some other condition. These people are the lucky ones. They have been diagnosed and they are given an opportunity to get it corrected. There are hundreds if not thousands of more unlucky ones who end up having stroke or other fatal disorders.

Warning signs:

Through there may not be any visible changes; hypertension does cause a few minor changes in the person. These are the warning signs to get a thorough medical check up. The warning signs are:

1. Some people may have nagging head aches. These head aches may be continuous or come on and off. They are rarely severe, but they keep coming frequently. This is one of the commonest warning signs of hypertension.

2. A few people with hypertension may be quick to anger than thy usually are. They may become moody and may become a little more short tempered than they usually are.

3. Increased fatigue: The person may feel more fatigued than usual with less amount of work. This fatigue may be either mental or physical. Mental fatigue occurs when the person has had a lot of thinking to do. This leads to a feeling of tiredness. Physical fatigue occurs with the person feeling drained in spite of very less exertion. This physical fatigue may be associated with palpitations.

4. Some people start having tremors. This can occur in only some people and is not very common.

5. Irritability: The person may be more irritable than he usually is. This is more common than some of the other signs. Even simple things like loud sounds or noise can get the person irritated.

These are some of the commonest warning signs that may be seen in a person with hypertension. This is simpler said than done because there may not be a drastic change. There will be a gradual change in the person and this is usually taken to be normal occurrence in an aging person.

The best people to identify these changes would be the family members or colleagues at work rather than the person with hypertension. When diagnosed with hypertension, immediate treatment should be taken before any permanent, life threatening damage is done.
