When I walked into a store in Saree, a lady saw me and was so curious to know about my outfit and had many questions for me, that prompted me to write this article.

What is Saree?
Saree or spelled sari is typically a ethnic Indian outfit for women. It is the most ancient attire that has kept its popularity throughout the centuries. With the western and hip styles catching up lately in India, Saree continues to dominate the wardrobe of Indian women. It brings out grace and elegancy and adds charm to feminism.

Saree is a rectangular piece of garment which is about 5 to 7 yards in length and 4 feet in width. This single piece of fabric need not be tailored for specific measurements and can be worn by all sizes of women. The material can be cotton, silk, crepe or any man-made fabric. They come in several designs with vibrant colors and prints.

You can choose the fabric based on your Physique. A lean women can opt for cotton, tussar sarees and to hide out some extra pounds, you can go for the crepe or georgetts ones that slims you instantly. The rich color and sophisticated patterns attracts all ages of people not only in India but across the globe too.

How to dress in a Saree (Sari)?
Saree is worn with tight fitting top called blouse or choli and thin long skirt known as petticoat. To tie a saree to perfection, you need a little practice at first and quiet easy after that. You have to start by tucking one end of the saree inside your petticoat and making one full complete turn around your waist, it is then pleated seven or eight times and tucked at the center into the waistband of petticoat. The remaining fabric, known as pallu is then pleated again and draped across the left shoulder to fall gracefully behind. It is pined up with the blouse on the shoulder so that it is manageable. The saree will look neat and modest when you wear it below the ankle so that only your toes show up. You can match it with sandles or some light shoes.

Types of Sarees and cost:
India, with diversity in culture, saree is also draped in different variations. Gujarati's, Bengali wear their pallu in front, while people in the southern regions put it behind. Nowadays, designer sarees, with several works with chamkis, pearls, embroideries, zardosi works are gaining facination Internationally. Kanchipuram in Tamilnadu is famous for silk sarees. Weavers come out with excellent creativity specially in the pallu of the saree which makes it still more attractive. The cost of the saree depends on factors like fabric, work, quality. It may range from Rs.200 to even Rs.25,000.
