Small-scale industries were the dream of Mahatma Gandhi,father of our nation. He has supported the growth of small-scale industries in India, because he had the vision that it will help the poor people of India to come up. Small-scale or cottage industries are not capital based, but the talent and effort based business. So even middle class person can own and run this. But, it seems that, we people have not given the importance to his words. We went behind the fashions and surrendered ourselves to the publicity of MNCs. So the Indian small-scale industries could not compete with the MNCs and they lost their existence itself. But even now, if our government gives good encouragement to the small-scale and cottage industries, definitely it can come up. Even there can be the implementation of technologies towards small-scale industries. As per new international poverty line of $1.25, around 40% of Indian population in under poverty line. It is very difficult to provide the employment to all. So at least we can encourage the self employment through small-scale industries. India has been gifted with adequate natural resources. So this is a favorable factor for the establishment and growth of small-scale industries. Government can come up with the loan facilities and proper training on these industries. This may encourage unemployed people to start their career in this sector. So with the proper planning and encouragement, we can make the dream of Mahatma Gandhi implemented in reality.
