Role of nanotechnology in industries and the size of nanometer.BY: Deena David | Category: Technology and Computers | Post Date: 2009-10-31
Nanotechnology is a technology that involves the use of minute particles in the creation of various electronic goods. There has been a sea change in various electronic item productions after the production of many objects that are very minute. These are used in almost all electronic goods. The cost of the various goods may increase because of the production of nanotechnology used objects. A person has to understand the size of a nanometer to really understand the technology used in this type of goods. The nanometer is actually one billionth of a meter. A person can fully appreciate the size only if they know how much that is. Actually it is so small that it cannot be seen with the naked eye. It is usually seen with a very powerful microscope to be able to see the objects that are in the size of a nanometer. If one is in India, the recent addition to the passenger car segment by a well known company will come to memory. It is called as nano based on the size. The nano is a small car that is also very cheap. The name given to the car is based on the new technology that is being used in all fields of technology. Nanotechnology is next generation technology that is used for electronic material production. Nanotechnology in computers The size of the computers is one of the important transitions that have been possible because of nanotechnology. In the days when the computers were built initially, they were the size of a room. The transition was swift till it became small like a desk top computer. Now the computer has been made still smaller into laptops and palmtops. It is still getting smaller with more components of the computer including various switches and circuits being built using the nanotechnology. Nanotechnology in medical field: In the medical field too nanotechnology is being used to produce medicines. There are many aerosols that are used for treating asthma and this uses particles that are suspended in aerosol form and is very small in size. All the various viruses and bacteria are usually very small and in the size of a nanometer or even less. Various medical equipments are also being produced using nanotechnology that is making the treatment of people simpler. These equipments can also become more efficient when this technology is used. Disadvantage of nanotechnology: In the past few years we have come to greatly think of use and throw materials. The electronic goods that are mass produced using this technology have so many components that are very small and when some component is damaged, it becomes very difficult to identify the problem and the whole object has to be discarded as it is not possible to repair it. Another disadvantage of nanotechnology is the high cost of the materials that are produced using this technology. This might soon reduce once the items are mass produced and the cost will go down. Nanotechnology has already changed the way we live and it will further change our lives in the years to come.
