Reasons why students should study Civil Engineering | Vishwesharayya.BY: Muhammed Haris | Category: Education | Post Date: 2009-09-20
Compared to Engineering Branches like IT, BT, Electronics, Information Science etc, Civil Engineering Branch has always been opted by less number of students. During the counseling of engineering seats, the seats for IT, Electronics and Information Sciences usually get taken away the by highest ranked students. Civil Engineering seats have usually been opted only by the students who get lower ranks in entrance exam, just because those are the only seats left towards the end. But in fact the scope for Civil Engineering is at par with the scope for other leading branches. Civil Engineering is all about the infrastructures and design techniques. The root of the civilization is based on Civil Engineering. If there is no growth in the infrastructure of a country, one cannot think of the growth in any other sector. One of the greatest engineering legend from India's Sir M. Vishwesharayya who has been honored with the knighthood by the queen of England. He has achieved this honor because of his talent and the skill in Civil Engineering field. Some Engineering universities in India have been named after the legend Civil Engineer Sir. M. Vishwesharayya. VTU university of Karnataka is an example for it. To excel in Civil Engineering, the main skills required to be gained are: - The reasoning skill, - Good knowledge of geometry, - Good creativity, - Good imagination etc. There is an example of the legend Civil Engineer Sir. M. Vishwesharayya. When he visited the world famous Jog fall, unlike the other tourists what he thought was "How much energy is being wasted? Why cannot we use this to produce the electricity out of it?". The production of electricity is at the Jog fall is a brain child of his thought which has been a major source to meet the power requirement of the Karnataka. If he would not have just enjoyed the beauty of the fall just like other tourists, the great thought of producing the electricity from the Jog fall would not have come true. So, by all means the Civil Engineering can be the choice of talented people too. It should not be left behind or opted just for the reason those seats are the only available subjects. Geometry is very ancient science. There are deep geometric logics applied in the construction of the wonders of the world like Pyramids in Egypt, Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal of India, etc. If humans had such an advanced Civil Engineering skills even in ancient times, today's ultra-modern Civil Engineering skills are definitely worth studying and applying to create great wonders. Many buildings bring us a thought that even drawing the pictures of these buildings itself seems to be an extra ordinarily difficult thing, so how would have they have constructed them so beautifully? Creating something on the system where all the platforms and applications are provided is not a great thing, compared to creativity the Civil Engineering sketches out of the imagination and drafting skill. So the growing people should understand the importance and the scope of Civil Engineering.
