Campus ragging has been a torture to be faced by the new joiners of college. In has become an entertainment to the students who are ragging and irritation to the students who are getting ragged. There is a saying, "play for the cat and deadly pain to the rat". Ragging has become such a thing. There are no strict measures to discourage the ragging. The smart and beautiful young girls are the main target for ragging. In the colleges, the staffs are just meant for teaching. They are not in a position to control and enforce discipline amongst the grown up students of colleges. Many times ragging takes place with the knowledge of the college staff but they are helpless. The senior students who involve in ragging get the support of politicians, unions and rowdy gangs. Teachers are helpless due to the pressure that they have from the senior students and their high end contacts that they have. So the society cannot control ragging easily unless something serious is done against this crime. When ragging is done by powerful teams, even the police people do not dare to take action against them. So it has to be controlled by the self responsibility of senior students themselves who are involved in ragging. Senior students should be like a role model for juniors. Senior students should consider their juniors as their brothers and sisters. They should think that, if their own brothers and sisters are getting ragged, how they would feel about that? When they come out of the college and get into responsible positions at that time they would not be in a position to oppose ragging which they had themselves supported in college. So, during the college days itself, a responsible student should strictly oppose ragging. Ragging can even take lives, some students commit suicide out of the fear or shame of being ragged. Life is precious and we need to be more responsible towards others.
