Putting yourself in other people's shoesBY: Jane | Category: Relationships | Post Date: 2008-07-07
Man is a social animal. On a daily basis, he interacts with numerous people. Countless words usher out from his mouth. It is almost impossible to keep a track of what harsh words have been said to the other person. Some 15 years ago, when I was in school, my teacher used to tell us that at the end of the day, before you go to sleep, think of the worthy things that you have said and done that day. I still recollect that and feel satisfied when my day goes off without having hurt anybody. Personality, type of responsibility and status of a person plays an important role in the way a person communicates. For eg; a peon may not utter any harsh word in his office because of his position. A daughter-in-law may be quiet if the other members are dominating. A younger sister may prefer to keep quiet rather than saying something to her elder brother who may be dominating and say words without thinking. It is good to be vocal about one's thoughts but that should be situational. If a person is quiet, people will take undue advantage of him. Let me share an experience; Hari did not have parents. His cousin had taken care of him. Hari always used to think about, what others would feel if he voiced out his opinion. He was very good at heart and of an helping nature. He lacked diplomacy. He was married and had a daughter. He realized that he had to save money for his family. So, he saved a considerable amount of money. Hari's cousin would always make him realize and boast that "he" had taken care of Hari and because of him, Hari could survive. So, on every occasion, Hari and his wife would be quiet and listen to his cousin's words. and ignore. The cousin now required some money and knowing that Hari had saved some amount, his obvious choice was to ask Hari. When Hari refused, the cousin started counting the 'n' number of favors done to him using harsh words. The result was, Hari's family life became suffocating with arguments with his wife. Did Hari's cousin think before speaking ? Why did Hari had to give away to his cousin's demands ? I just want to put forth a point that one can always avoid a situation if you cannot make one realize his mistakes. Arguing from both the sides will worsen the situation further. Will you, the reader of this article, think before your speak ? Article Source: http://www.saching.com About Author / Additional Info: I am a housewife with a child. I have been a career woman.
