The decision to buy a car is one of the most important ones that any family makes. The costs involved and the safety aspect of the car plays a major role in the selection of the car. The decision is important in many middle class families because of the cost involved in purchasing a car.

Most people look at the features of the car and the cost effectiveness of purchasing a particular car. Very few people look at the safety concerns of the particular car. This article talks of the important things you have to keep in mind regarding safety while purchasing a car.

Safety is the primary factor that has to be borne in mind when you decide to purchase a car. Factors like comfort and cost may also be important, but the most important aspect of the final decision would be the safety and the cost of the car.

The most important safety aspects which you have to look out for when you buy a car are listed below.


1. The cars body: Most accidents involving cars can make the car damaged badly. The important thing is to see how sturdy the car would be in an accident. For this the material of the make of the car body is very important.Sturdy cars can help save lives in case of a collision.

2. Collisions: Collisions are very common now. These can be prevented if the vehicle is under the drivers control at all times. Vehicles with a history of going out of control should not be purchased under any circumstances.
Small cars may not withstand any collision. So it is preferrable to purchase a larger vehicle that can withstand collisions.
Cars fitted with anti collision devices are a better buy.

3. Restraints: The restraints are he ones that hold back the driver in case of any accident or collision. So these should have passed stringent safety standards if they are to be of any use in a high speed accident.

4. Braking system: Brakes come in various types in different cars. You need to select a car that you are comfortable with. Any car with faulty braking system is best avoided.

5. Air bags and child locks : Air bags are those which prevent chest injuries in drivers and also passengers. These bags open during any collision and prevent rib fractures and other injury. They should be tested and inperfect working condition.


The cars should have passed stringent safety standard tests. These are the things a potential buyer has to keep in mind as far as safety in a car is concerned.
