Protect your eyes and look cool: How to select good sunglassesBY: Deena David | Category: Shopping | Post Date: 2009-08-10
Sunglasses as the name indicates help to protect the eye from the summer and the hot sun. It protects the delicate eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. Many people wear sunglasses as a fashion statement. This may not always be good for the eyes. Though the sunglasses can be used to protect the eyes, it may not be real cool to wear them sometimes. This article tells of the important facts that a person needs to know about sunglasses. 1. Not everyone needs sunglasses: Most people can tolerate the sunlight without the use of sunglasses. People who encounter dust, glare, wind or prolonged exposure to intense sunlight can wear sunglasses. Wearing sunglasses at all times can reduce the tolerance level of the eyes. This will make the normal light unpleasant for the eye as time goes by. 2. Spurious sunglasses: There are many spurious sunglasses on the market these days. They are fake and may cause more damage and harm to the eye than the good it can cause. Selecting a pair of glasses that has a brochure attached or one that says UV400 or 100%UV protection is better. Even this can backfire sometimes because of the false claims of many manufacturers of sunglasses. IT might be a better idea to pay more for a branded sunglass that is made according to specifications. 3. Color of glass: The color of the glass in the sunglasses does not play a major role in the quality or protection. Though this is true, it should be understood that gray, light green or brown glasses do not damage the eyes as yellow, red and other colored glasses can do. 4. Plastic: The lens if made of plastic will be unbreakable and so are safer than those made of glass. This is especially true while driving and while playing. It is better to purchase scratch proofed plastic sunglasses. 5. Testing: There is a simple method of testing the sunglasses. Hold the sunglass about half an arm's length from the body and look at objects. If the object looks as it is, then the sunglass can be considered as good for the eye. If the object seems to wobble or the object moves, then it means that the glass has imperfections. 6. Polarized sunglasses are the best for cutting the glare. This is suitable for driving, boating and while at the beach or anywhere out under the sun as the eye needs more protection due to the increased exposure. 7. Photo chromatic glasses adjust to the Ultra violet rays and so is a better choice for those who often wear sunglasses. These glasses look normal if worn indoors because of the lack of UV rays. When they are worn under the suns glare the glasses adjust according to the glare form the sun. This will help to protect the eye. 8. Children: Children should not be made to wear sunglasses habitually. This may cause them to become dependent on these glasses. As they grow up, they will become unable to manage without these glasses. These are the methods of purchasing a good sunglass that can protect the eye.
