Prostitution has been an unavoidable business in India. Almost every city has been found to have a red light area. Government itself gives licenses to some authorized red light areas. But there are many unauthorized prostitution gangs all over the country. There are many people who act as a brokers for this business to get the middle man's commission.

I happen to participate in an awareness program about HIV/AIDS. One such resource addressed the gathering and there was a question and answers session. I shot a question at him, 'Why cannot the government ban the prostitution?' He replied, 'If the prostitution is banned, can the girl walk on the street? Don't you feel fed up of having the same home cooked food and think of having the outside food? Sexual taste is also like that.'

I could not answer him. I said him, -You are right. Banning the prostitution cannot be solution-. The right answer is to regulate prostitution.

But the unfortunate thing about the prostitution is that many innocent girls have been made to forcefully get involved in prostitution by brokers or their own desire of earning money in an easier way. Also, the girls who got harassed and rejected by the family members tends to follow the path of prostitution. But the society should not give scope for such incidents. Woman should be in a position of earning in the right way to lead her life, in any situations.

I heard news, that many girls, who completed graduation and came in search of jobs, could not get a job. They were in need to money to lead their life. They did not want to return to home. They say that, if at all they return home, without finding a proper job, they will be insulted at home by relatives. So they started working as a prostitute. It was very sorrowful seen to seeing them crying by covering their faces before the Media people.

So, we need to give strict regulations about the prostitution, at least for the sake of protecting the life and status of the women.
