Austria is a popular tourist attraction of Europe and is said to be the winter sports capital of that area. It lies in the heart of Europe bordering popular tourist countries like Switzerland, Germany, Hungary and Italy. The economy of Austria depends a lot on its tourism with February, July and August being the main months for tourism. However, Austria attracts tourists all year round and is mainly popular for its rich historical as well as modern architecture, picturesque hiking in the summer and snow sports in the winter. Vienna the historic capital and Salzburg, the birth place of Mozart are the main places to see in Austria. Austria has more than 15,000 hotels to house tourists along with several other accommodation options such as youth hostels, mountain huts, and campsites.


PLACES TO SEE IN AUSTRIA

Salzburg
Known for being the birth place of Mozart, Salzburg is located between the Salzach River and the Monchsberg and is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Austria. You will find Mozart music being played a lot within the city, also, the city has two Mozart museums and even chocolate balls by his name. The most enjoyable way to see the place is to take a horse drawn carriage that will take you around the city. The most popular places to see here are the Mozart museums, residenz, Schloss Hellbrunn and St Peter's church. Hohensalzburg Fortress is another attraction of this place providing wonderful views over the Alps and City.

Graz
Known for its spectacular architecture dating back to 1480's along with a peaceful and relaxed life, Graz is another popular place to see in Austria. It consists of picturesque sites and amazing architecture ranging from Baroque palaces to several modern masterpieces of architecture such as Kunsthaus a beautiful art gallery on the river bank.The most popular places to see here are The Carillon, The clock tower, The Stadtpfarrkirche which is a baroque parish church.

Albach
Albach is popular for its summer and winter activities. In the summers it offers a beautiful area for hiking with stunning floral displays, whereas in the winters it has a lot of snow sports like skiing and snow boarding. The best places for hiking are around Galtenberg mountain and near the area of Inner alpbach. Another popular places are the Gratlspitz Ridge and the Golden roof in the old town in Innsbruck.

Vienna
Located by the River Danube, the Magical city of Vienna is a popular tourist attraction of Austria. The city has been known for its festivals, museums and historic architecture along with fabulous shopping and dining offering a lot to its visitors. St Stephe's Cathedral is one of the most remarkable landmarks of Vienna. The church is a Gothic masterpiece with a tiled roof holding the symbolic Austrian Eagle. Hofburg Palace also known as Imperial Palace is another popular tourist attraction here. Some of the other places to see in Vienna are - Vienna State Opera in which several operas and ballet performances take place, Spanish Riding School, Karlskirche which is one of the most beautiful church of the city, Schonbrunn Palace. The Giant Wheel which is located inside a wooded park known as Prater. Belvedre which consists of two mansions that face one another and offer mesmerizing views of the city of Vienna

The Spanish Riding School
Located in Central Vienna, this unique institution is the oldest riding school of the world and is a must place to see in Austria. September to June are the best months to visit this place and a advance booking is needed in order to see the performances. The riders are traditionally dressed with hats and brown coats whereas the horses have golden and red saddlecloth. There are basically three performances including a individual performance, two horse performance and Grand Quadrille with sixteen horses.
