Positive attitude, positive thinking, and optimism are known to be a root cause of many positive life benefits-the good life and well being. One can live longer and be healthier and happier with a positive attitude toward life. In addition, he/she is more likely to be successful. We have to learn to use the power of thinking positive, adopting positive attitudes, and affirmations to gain important life benefits.

What is Attitude?
Attitude is a mental position relative to a way of thinking or being; a leaning toward that which you believe. A positive attitude is, therefore, the inclination to generally be in an optimistic, hopeful state of mind.

Developing a positive attitude
The way you think, day in and day out, affects all aspects of your life. Learning to be mindful of your -internal dialogue- will help you recognize thought patterns and how they may be affecting the way you handle the situations of daily living. Many people have found that, when they tune in to their internal dialogue, much of it is negative. Thoughts like, -I could never do that- and -What if I fail?- can seriously impact the way you behave. This, in turn, affects every aspect of your life.

The Power of Positive Attitude
Positive attitude helps to cope more easily with the daily affairs of life. It brings optimism into your life, and makes it easier to avoid worry and negative thinking. If you adopt it as a way of life, it will bring constructive changes into your life and makes it happier, brighter and more successful. With a positive attitude you see the bright side of life, become optimistic and expect the best to happen. It is certainly a state of mind that is well worth developing and strengthening.

Positive attitude manifests in the following ways:
- Positive thinking.
- Constructive thinking.
- Creative thinking.
- Expecting success.
- Optimism. Motivation to accomplish your goals.
- Being inspired.
- Choosing happiness.
- Not giving up.
- Looking at failure and problems as blessings in disguise.
- Believing in yourself and in your abilities.
- Displaying self-esteem and confidence.
- Looking for solutions.
- Seeing opportunities.

A positive attitude leads to happiness and success and can change your whole life. If you look at the bright side of life, your whole life becomes filled with light. This light affects not only you and the way you look at the world, but also your whole environment and the people around you. If it is strong enough, it becomes contagious.

The benefits of a positive attitude:
- Helps achieving goals and attaining success.
- Success achieved faster and more easily.
- More happiness.
- More energy.
- Greater inner power and strength.
- The ability to inspire and motivate yourself and others.
- Fewer difficulties encountered along the way.
- The ability to surmount any difficulty.
- Life smiles at you.
- People respect you.

Developing a positive attitude that will lead you to happiness and success:
- Choose to be happy.
- Look at the bright side of life.
- Choose to be and stay optimistic.
- Find reasons to smile more often.
- Have faith in yourself and in the Power of the Universe.
- Contemplate upon the futility of negative thinking and worries.
- Associate yourself with happy people.
- Read inspiring stories.
- Read inspiring quotes.
- Repeat affirmations that inspire and motivate you.
- Visualize only what you want to happen.
- Learn to master your thoughts.
- Learn concentration and meditation.

Without taking action, all of the positivism in the world will not produce the results that you are really after. You have to make sure that you are willing to pay whatever price is necessary to get what it is that you want. And the more positive you are about taking this approach, the better off you will be.
There are many people out there who will try to tell you that just having a positive attitude is all that you need, but this is only one of the necessary ingredients. You have to be able to keep moving forward and taking an active role in approaching your goals and your dreams in life. Take action and always keep your outlook on the positive side, but remember to always do more!
When we are positive, we find that our interactions with the world and ourselves become brighter, more productive and perpetuate the ‘feel good' factor. This in turn makes us healthier and more peaceful.

But how do we develop this positivism. The answer can be found in ‘Attitudinal' Yoga. According to this concept of yoga, the path to a positive attitude can be found through a 3-step approach, namely-awareness, acceptance and attitude.
Awareness:

The first step is to be aware of what and how we are thinking. We must train ourselves to be aware at all times of how our mind is working - the thoughts, thinking patterns and tendencies. Make this a habit.
Acceptance:

Awareness, however, brings about a heightened sensitivity to the issues. We tend to become judgemental and critical of ourselves or of others. This has the danger of sending us into a vicious cycle of negativity UNLESS we learn to accept what we see and understand.

Have an attitude that -it is ok- to think how we are. Just be a witness to this fact and believe that God likes us for what we are. This acceptance leads to a genuine love and compassion, which forms the bedrock of positive thinking. With practice, you will find that this helps in surmounting negativity to a large extent.
Attitude:

Once we have accepted what lies within our thoughts, we can actually start working upon how we ‘want' to look at that particular person, situation or thing. Always be in the nature of a positive statement - such as -I am becoming more positive every day-. Such inputs fed into the mind help in shaping our attitude into one of positivism.

Let us look at changing attitude with the following example. Suppose you have a negative attitude toward someone. So much so that he puts you in a bad mood the moment you see him. For a moment, find just one small thing or quality in him that you do like. Now remember that one positive thing whenever you meet or interact with him. Gradually, you will see that your feelings towards him will become more positive and things start looking up.

Following these three guidelines and you will find yourself becoming more positive. Ultimately, positive thinking affects the body vibrations in a positive manner. This in turn, affects the vibrations around us, which in turn, affect the situations around us. This helps in relieving our suffering and leading a harmonious life.
