There are about 1.7 Million in India working in BPOs. Most of the BPO require night shift duties. Nearly 40% of the total BPO employees are girls. But there were many incidents of girl working in night shifts were harassed, raped and murdered. So there is a discussion about banning night shift duties for working girls. But what effect it would cause to the girl employees? Since BPO industries just hire the processes from the industries abroad, BPO employees need to work during the business hours of the client company. So working at night shift is a must. If the girls are not allowed to work at night shifts, obviously they need to hire the boys. No doubt that, it would give good opportunity to the unemployed boys. But what about the girl employees who lose their jobs? Where should they go for jobs? No alternative industry can give the jobs to that number of girl employees. This may even make working girls to go for anti-social works like prostitution. Already the young girls who are working in BPOs are very much exposed to free culture. If they lose their jobs, and if the jobs will be only with the boys, they have no way but to get some money from the guys at any cost. Naturally, the prostitution would come into picture. So instead of banning the night shift duty for the girls, the government would enforce strict security for working girls. Banning the night shift for girls would be like removing the foot, when there is a wound at the foot. So let us not go for removing foot. Instead, let us cure the wound.
