The news papers in Karnataka were in tough competition in terms of price. First of all Vijay Karnataka reduced the price of daily news papers to one and a half rupees. Looking at that, the other news papers had to reduce their news paper price as well. Other news papers like Udayavani, Prajavani, Janavahini, Kannada Prabha, also started the price competition. It has really brought a revolution in the knowledge. Anybody and everybody started buying news papers since they were more affordable. Even in the hands of a person who is going for daily wages, news papers were found. If a person spends one rupee and fifty paisa for news papers daily, at the end of the month about fifty paisa per paper he would get when it has been sold. So finally to get a news paper, one would spend just one rupee per day.

But later news paper people in Karnataka came to a common plan of mutual interest, that they will increase the price of the news paper and they will fix a common price. Then the prices of news papers have been hiked and again it became a costly thing. We see many publications from the governments which have been sold at very cheap rates. They are formed to improve the literature and the knowledge in the society. But the private news papers' publications are aimed at higher profit. Even when they get good number of advertisements for which they have been paid for, still they charge higher prices. The rise in news paper prices in Karnataka has disabled the ability of common man to be able to buy a news paper daily.

The government should take measures to bring down the selling price of news papers, because the news papers improve the literature and the knowledge of the society. It is a basic necessity for the people of today who want to know about all that is going on in the world. For some, it is the only source of information.
