Need for Medical Insurance in IndiaBY: Muhammed Haris | Category: Health and Fitness | Post Date: 2009-07-13
Medical Insurance in not very popular in India compared to US and European countries. In developed countries like Canada, U.S. and U.K. , almost every citizen has been covered under the medical insurance. Most of the people are covered under more than one plan. Wife can be covered under the policy of her husband and vice versa. Son can be covered under the policy of his parents and vice versa. The law even extends the insurance coverage to the one unmarried to but living with a person who got an insurance policy. Government gives medical insurance to the senior citizens and to poor people under the coverage of Medicare and Medicaid. People can easily get any required treatment or even the regular check ups under the coverage of medical insurance. There are widely established network of hospitals for the medical insurance coverage. Even a member can go to non network providers, but the medical insurance coverage will be at little less percentage. But in India, most of the times, the patient himself pays the hospital bills. If he does not have enough money with him to bear the medical expenditure, he goes begging others for credit. If a person meets with an accidents, that absolutely hits his life style. Many times people avoid necessary treatment and check ups just because they do not have enough money to go for it. But that is shame on the part of the society and the nation. That is very unhealthy trend in the human resource of the country. So, there should be well established and well maintained system of medical insurance in India. To protect the health of the people and to make them prepared to face any accidental risks.
