Pumpkin is a symbol of prosperity and fruitfulness in many Eastern countries like India and China. The first pumpkins were actually from India and sent to China. Some studies have found that eating pumpkin seeds as a snack can help prevent many common diseases like kidney stone and formation of stone in the urine. This makes pumpkin very sought after food. There are also various other health benefits of eating pumpkin and pumpkin seeds.

Health Benefits of Pumpkin and Pumpkin seeds:

1. Pumpkin seeds help to reduce the levels of substances that promote stone formation in urine.

2. Pumpkin seeds are high in Zinc content, and so helps in healing of wounds

3. Pumpkin seeds are also useful in treating an enlarged prostrate gland

4. Other nutrients present in pumpkin seeds are Magnesium, phosphorous, Zinc, copper, potassium, folic acid, niacin, riboflavin and thiamin.

5. Pumpkin seeds and husks also aid in milk production in lactating mothers. There are some mothers who are unable to produce milk due to various reasons like stress. These people can be given a diet of pumpkin seeds and it will help to improve the lactation.

6. They are also used for reducing the postpartum swelling of the hands and feet. This will help the mother to recover quickly to take care of the child and also the daily work.

7. A high zinc content of the pumpkin seeds are good for older people because it helps in increasing the bone mineral density.

8. Though women are osteoporotic and can take pumpkin seeds for increasing the bone density, men are also highly prone for injuries and fractures.

9. Pumpkin seeds are also helpful in getting rid of intestinal parasites like pinworms and tapeworms. Before the use of medications, these were the natural foods that helped people to clear their intestines of these parasites. Even now in places where adequate medical facilities are not available, these natural food like pumpkin and pumpkin seeds are used to treat these conditions.

10. Pumpkins are also useful to reduce the dryness of the skin. It helps to reduce the roughness of the skin.

11. Pimples, spots and freckles can also be treated with pumpkin. In fact there are face packs prepared with the pumpkin pulp.

12. The same pulp will also help a burn wound to heal quickly.

These are the important health benefits of pumpkin and pumpkin seeds. They are natural foods that have no side effects and can be used without any fear to treat the above conditions.
