Medical And Non-Medical Causes And Treatment For HyperhidrosisBY: Deena David | Category: Health and Fitness | Post Date: 2009-10-31
Sweating is a common problem that is seen in people. There are people who sweat because of the excessive temperature that is present in the place where the person is living. The sweating can be excessive also because of the work that the person does. Obviously, a long distance runner sweats more than a person working in an office. This makes one understand that the work or amount of exercise that a person does also causes excessive sweating. Most of the excessive sweating that occurs in a person does not really need treatment because the sweating though excess, is only moderate and not severe. When the sweating is excessive and severe, then medical treatment has to be done to treat the problem. Medical causes of hyperhidrosis: Hyperhidrosis as excessive sweating is also called as, is mainly due to certain medical conditions in a person. 1. Diabetes: Diabetes is usually not a common cause of excessive sweating, though there is excessive sweating that occurs in a person who is having diabetes and is on medication that reduces the level of the glucose in the blood. The sudden reduction in the glucose levels can cause excessive sweating. This sweating can be treated by just keeping the sugar levels normal. 2. Cardiac arrest: This is another condition in which the person suffering from the disease has a sudden bout of sweating when the person is having the heart attack. The reason for the sudden bout of sweating is partly because of the pain and the tightness in the chest and the anxiety. It is also due to the increased adrenaline in the body. When the heart attack subsides, the excessive sweating will also subside by itself. 3. Nerve injuries: People who are having problems with their nerves either in the central nervous system or the peripheral nervous system have a greater chance of having excessive sweating. This is because the nerve injuries cause a break in the chain of events that trigger sweating. This break in the events can lead to a loss of sweating or excessive sweating. The nerve injuries can seldom be treated, but other methods of preventing hyperhidrosis can be used like medications. Non medical causes of sweating: There are also many non medical causes of sweating as already seen: 1. Obesity: Though some people might think that obesity is a medical condition, it may not be always a disease. There are people who are obese because of heredity. Even in these people, there is excessive sweating by the sweat glands to keep the person cool and also for the body to eliminate the unwanted water. 2. Climate: The climate or weather in the place where a person is living can also cause excessive sweating. If a person who has predominantly lived in a cool place goes to a place where the temperature is very high, then the person may sweat excessively till getting accommodated to the temperature. These non medical causes of hyperhidrosis reduce once the cause is not present.
