Marketing is a skill, but is it learnt from the universities or came genetic? We see many children and young people selling on the streets. We wonder about their marketing skills. They have studied marketing from any universities. They do not have a MBA from a management institute. But how did they equip themselves? It is the skill they got being with their family business. There are many families who make their children also involve in their business. It makes the children also get exposure to the business and marketing skills.

I went to a cloth shop with my classmates in MBA, to buy the cloths to stitch our uniforms. A Young salesman was in that shop. We chose the clothes and we all together started bargaining about the price. But that guy was justifying himself about the prices. He was justifying so well with the respectable language, so that we could not argue with him. We all were MBA students. One of us asked about what he studied. He said he left the school at 6th standard. We really wondered about the marketing skills of that guy and wondered if they are genetic. He had equipped himself with very good business personality, even better than us. When we were coming back we were discussing about him. One of us was saying, -Marketing is in their blood. They are not required to learn marketing. Their marketing skills were not documented in marketing books. We just learn the marketing theories of known writers. But there are very good marketing and business strategies being practiced by these businessmen. Many times we may find these skills better than the marketing skills we learn in our books.

Even many of the business giants like Dhirubai Ambani, Azim Premji etc people have grown from the small businesses and then grown as big business names. So we need to be considering the marketing skills of those people, whose knowledge is just in practice in the families and getting inherited only to their generations. These skills are the results of the business line of past thousands of years and may be they are genetic. In India we had the economists liked Chanakya who gave the great marketing theories in his book -Artha-Shaasthra-. The book is still relevant today's business world. So we need to be emphasizing these like traditionally followed marketing skills of India in the books of universities and institutions.

In fact of you see majority of people who run their businesses do not hold a professional marketing certification, they have learned because it's in their attitude, their blood and may be it's genetic!
