Today many organisations speak of values or some even call it core values, these transform into many jargons like Creativity and innovation, Team work, Fair play, Quality and many more. The question is are these values being truly followed and have they been accepted and absorbed into the core of every employee, if so what is each employee doing to display these values on a daily basis at his/her work place and how he/she is being measured as to the practice of these core values. Is there any way where the management has a mechanism to check whether these values have been absorbed and are being practiced.

These very questions gave me a thought of putting MBO (Management by Objectives) as MBVBO (Management By Value based Objectives).
By which:
a) The values become our core driving force
b) Every one inculcates and absorbs these values
c) Every one then follows, practices and speaks of these values.

These values are the guidelines and road map for achieving our objectives and the mission of the organisation. Hence the management achieves its objectives by following a value based system.

But the process is not as easy as said or written.
Firstly what are our objectives and by when we should achieve them, why these objectives were set, who set them and where are the basic resources and requirements to achieve these objectives.
Secondly what are our organisational values and how are we going to imbibe these values into every employee, when are we going to do it and what is the dead line.

Why these values and not others? Will these values lead us to our objectives? Where should we display/teach these values to get the maximum mileage and absorption?

Once these questions are answered and we get a clear picture or what we term as direction towards our objectives, we can proceed to link our values to the objectives and work diligently on our values to achieve our objectives.

Now what do I mean by working on our values, it means each and everyone in the organisation must just not think the value but feel them and make it a part of their daily life let me call it as VALUE DISCIPLINE.

• HE/SHE MUST READ THE VALUE EVERY DAY.
• PRACTICE THE VALUE EVERY DAY.
• TALK THE VALUE EVERY DAY.
• LIVE THE VALUE EVERY DAY till it becomes a HABIT and the HABIT becomes a DISCIPLINE. One should become the DISCIPLE OF VALUE DISCIPLINE.

Once these core values become a discipline and they are followed by everyone every day in the organisation, the objectives of the organisation will be achieved by following the values and living the values making the organisation very successful and value driven. What ever objectives are set each year they will be achieved as the core values will not change.

Example: Mahatma Gandhi lived by his values and principles and achieved his objective of independence for the nation.
Abraham Lincoln lived by his values and principles and achieved president ship of America.
