Longboarding Tips - Skating LongboardsBY: betos | Category: Sports | Post Date: 2008-09-13
Tricks on a longboard is like peanut butter on a jelly sandwich and that is what I'm here to talk to you about today! when I first got into longboarding I thought that it was great sport but that it lacked the luster that you can get from skateboarding. Then I found about sliding. Sliding is good for two things in longboarding. First and foremost they are tricks and so it looks pretty sweet when you bust a powerslide going 30 or 40 miles per hour. Second is to stop because when your going 30 or 40 miles per hour on your board the last thing you want to do is be worried about stopping. So not only is it in your best interest to learn how to slide it will also look sick when you are longboarding with all of your friends. Now I know the question is how do I start sliding?? Well your in luck because here is how you start sliding and the first slide that is very easy to learn. The first thing that you need to do is get some sliding gloves. These are very easy to make and they will keep your pockets feeling very fat with all the cash you won't spend(Company made ones are about 50 bucks to buy and homemade ones are about 15). Go to your local supermarket and get some good working leather gloves like the ones used in construction and also get some cutting board(this is what your going to slide on) Also you need to pick up some shoe goo(this stuff is sold at Walmart and it the best of any glue that I have tested) Now go home and trace some pucks o the cutting board one that is square and fits on your palm and one that fits across your four fingers. After you trace the pucks you need to cut them out and any hack saw will do the trick. Now cutting them out will take a few minutes and once there out go grab your gloves and figure out what the best spot for the pucks are. Now when you know glue them on and let them sit for at least a day. This is very important because the glue is very strong but it needs time to set into the leather. Now when your all done go ahead and grab your board and go find a moderately steep hill. The Sliiiiiidddeeeeee is the next subject and man is it sweeeeet. Go to a hill were you can get a little speed because any good slide goes around a lot better with speed. The slide I want to teach you is called the power slide. First get enough speed to where you would run off normally but in this case you are going to slide. Grab the front of your board where the toes of your shoes are and by doing this you need to crouch down. Now grab the board with the opposite hand of your dominate foot(goofy=left and regular=left) now with your other hand put it behind you and pull back with the hand on your board. The idea is to make the wheels slide so that you will do a one hundred and eighty degree turn. This will take a few tries but once you have the hang of it you can stop anytime! This is the first of many articles to come but go out there and ride because that's what it's all about. Keep practicing the powerslide because once you get this slide it will open a gate to many other. Have fun and ride the black powder Article Source: http://www.saching.com About Author / Additional Info: My name is Trent and I run a blog about longboarding it is called longboardblog.com if you get a chance check it.
