Many of us rarely have self discipline. The self discipline may not be there when we take a resolution and we do not carry out what we resolved to do. One simple example of lack of self discipline is when a person decides to cut down on the calories to lose weight, but the next minute, they eat food that is loaded with calories.

There are many simple methods of learning the art of self discipline. This article lists the five basic secrets of self discipline.

1. Be satisfied:

The basic thing that a person has to learn to be self disciplined is to be satisfied with what is present. When an individual is not satisfied, the individual tries to do more and ask for more. This leads to lack of adherence to what a person is supposed to do and self discipline is lost.

2. Set goals:

Setting goals for yourself is the basic step in learning self discipline. When you set goals for yourself, then you will have to try and complete the activity that needs to be done to attain the goal. So setting a goal and acting to achieve the goal is very important. Trying to achieve the goal itself is a very great step towards self discipline. Achieving the goal is better still in trying to be self disciplined.

3. Get rid of bad habits:

The most common reason for not being self disciplined is the presence of bad habits. A person who wants to be self disciplined has to completely forget the bad habits. This is one of the best methods of becoming self disciplined. Many people try to become self disciplined in spite of their bad habits. These people are sure to have failures. This is because of the fact that self discipline and bad habits never go together. Another way of telling the same fact is that if a person really wanted to be self disciplined, then they would have got rid of their bad habit as the first step towards becoming self disciplined.

4. Ignore negative influences:

When a person starts a new initiative, there are sure to be more negative influences than positive ones. This is the same in those who try to become self disciplined. There will be many negative influences in the form of family, friends and the situation. All these negative influences have to be overcome if a person has to try and become self disciplined. Staying away from people and situations that are sure to negatively influence your decision to become self disciplined will be very helpful.

5. Sports and other activities:

When a person wants to be self disciplined, the various leisure activities like sports and exercises will help the individual in trying to be systematic and work in a streamlined manner. People who are not involved in any activities have a higher chance of not being able to become self disciplined.

These are the five basic steps that will help a person to become more self disciplined.
