Mushrooms are one of the few foods that can be considered as both a vegetarian's diet and a non vegetarian's diet. It tastes similar to other food that is got from animals. At the same time mushrooms are actually considered to be a plant based food. The single most important thing to remember is that it is better not to pick the mushrooms that are from the garden or the woods near your house.

It is always better to buy the mushroom from a shop near you. This is because of the many deaths each year that is caused because of mushroom poisoning. There are people who die from eating mushrooms that are plucked. These mushrooms may seem harmless and edible, but they can be deceptive and can be fatal. Toxic mushrooms can damage the liver completely.

Once you have brought mushrooms and you are ready to cook them, you would be better off knowing the various health benefits that are got by eating mushrooms. They are delicious to eat and are easily cooked. They can be cooked or can be added to salads and soups.

The health benefits of eating mushroom are

1. Minerals:

Mushrooms are one of the most important sources of potassium. Eating mushrooms will help the person to intake adequate amounts of potassium that is necessary for healthy living. Mushrooms also contain copper that is required by the body. The potassium in the mushroom helps in preventing the risk of a person suffering from stroke. In fact mushrooms contain more potassium than what is present in a banana.

2. Vitamins:
Mushrooms also contain a large amount of various vitamins. Some of the most common vitamins that are present in mushrooms are riboflavin, niacin, and selenium. These vitamins help in the regular functioning of the body.

3. Antioxidants:
Selenium which is one of the antioxidants that is present in mushrooms. These antioxidants help to prevent various diseases. One of the greatest benefits of antioxidants is the ability to neutralize the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are the main reason for some forms of cancer. So antioxidants help to prevent these cancers. Free radicals also cause the oxidization of various substances ion the body. The free radicals also cause the plaques to form on the walls of the coronary vessels. Antioxidants like selenium that is present in mushroom helps to prevent cardiac diseases due to this ability to neutralize free radicals.

4. The various other health benefits of mushrooms are that it helps to boost the function of the immune system. This prevents the occurrence of various diseases. Due to the high levels of immunity that are got by consuming mushrooms, the body is able to resist many infections that occur.

5. Weight reduction:
The mushroom consists of mainly water. This high water content in the mushroom helps to prevent the increase in weight and also reduction of obesity in people.

6. The other properties of mushrooms are that they are having a lot of analgesic properties. This along with the anti inflammatory properties makes mushrooms helpful in treating and preventing various arthritic diseases.

These are the most important health benefits of eating mushrooms on a regular basis.
