Turmeric can be considered as a miracle food. It has so many health benefits related to using it in the diet. Many people only have inkling to what the various health benefits related to turmeric are. This article will help to make all the readers understand the many health benefits and the reason why turmeric should form a part of the diet of every person.

It is a food that has been used to treat hundreds of medical conditions ranging from cancer to Alzheimer's disease. The common reasons for which turmeric should be included in the diet are

1. Antiseptic:

It can be considered as a natural antiseptic. It helps in preventing infection from occurring in various cuts and burns. It also helps to disinfects wounds where there is a risk of infection.

2. Cancer:

It is a food that if used regularly as part of the diet, will help to treat and also prevent various types of cancers. Some of the types of cancers that are prevented by turmeric are prostrate cancer, breast cancer, melanomas and leukemia. In fact turmeric has been successfully used in animal studies to prevent metastases of the cancer cells. Turmeric has also been successfully used to kill cells that cause melanoma.

3. Liver detoxification:

Turmeric helps to reduce the toxicity in the liver. This is a very important factor that has to be considered because when the liver is affected by diseases like jaundice, cirrhosis and other conditions, the use of medicine to cure the diseases are limited because of the problems associated with increasing the toxicity of the liver. Liver toxicity also occurs in those who use excessive drugs. The use of turmeric in those people will help to prevent and treat liver toxicity. This is one of the major health benefits of turmeric.

4. Nervous system diseases:

Turmeric has another important health benefit and that is its use in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and also multiple sclerosis. Turmeric helps to prevent the severity of these diseases by helping to slow down the progression of the diseases. Turmeric helps to prevent or slow down the formation of plaques in the brain which is the primary cause of both Alzheimer's disease and also multiple sclerosis. Thus turmeric has a role to play in preventing both these conditions.

5. Natural anti inflammatory agent:

Turmeric is a natural anti inflammatory agent that is as good as many of the anti inflammatory drugs that are used by us. In fact turmeric is more useful than all these anti inflammatory drugs because turmeric helps to prevent the toxicity of the liver as well as give the anti inflammatory effects. While all the other anti inflammatory drugs cause liver toxicity when they are consumed.

These are some of the most important health benefits that are related to turmeric. In spite of all the health benefits that are related to this wonderful and amazing food, there are certain precautions that have to be taken when it is consumed. Turmeric should not be used by people who have bile or gall obstruction. Pregnant women also should consult the physician before using it in large quantity as part of the diet.
