Commercials are an integral part of today's media scenario. Be it newspapers, television channels, radio, and even the streets, the fact that they are all interspersed with ads is well-known by all and sundry.

Advertisements often attempt successfully in fooling the people. Ad makers and the brands know best what appeals to whom. Thus they deliberately put their best foot forward to hypnotize the audience thereby increasing their sales and profit. While certain shampoos guarantee us zero-dandruff, some fairness creams promise absolute whitening that too within a week, all through creative visualizations using advanced technologies. On the other hand some bikes may assure they can jump cliffs and mountains, and some pen guarantees excellent results on using them!!

Other means by which they try to captivate the audience include signing up superstars and megastars whom they feel apt for their product & at the same time appealing to the audience. While Sprite signs up SRK, Thums Up goes for Akshay Kumar, while Samsung mobiles are endorsed by Amir Khan, Nokia chooses Priyanka Chopra, while Kareena Kapoor supports Vivek, Deepika Padukone does it for Fiama Di Wills. Needless to say, there is a rampant competition that rages in the advertisement world. Some crores are paid to the brand ambassadors, and these opulent contracts makes the already rich stars richer, at the same time the brand profits due to the admitted fact that the emotional fans go for anything and everything that their stars do and endorse.

Attractive tags or ad-lines often prove to be functional in boosting one's business. Lines like ‘move on' (Fastrack) strikes a chord among the youth, as ‘sense and simplicity' (Philips) might appeal to the sensible family man.

As director Karan Johar had pointed out, ads might be one of the toughest media to express what is needed to, since the time one gets is a mere 30 seconds to 2 minutes. However they certainly don't always look to help or serve the interests of the mass. After all money matters…!

Advertisements are misleading
One of the biggest products sold in India are the SKIN FAIRNESS CREAMS. Our skin color is darker because of a chemical called Melanin in the body, and it cannot be controlled by applying external creams. I recently read an article which tells harmful effects of these creams in a long run, also presence of sunblock cream and bleach in them makes the whole thing deceptive. But these companies are making money big time, thanks to advertising.
