Tomato is the favourite fruit of many people which is grown throughout the world. The name tomato in Italian is poma amoris or "love apple". California produces nearly half of the world's tomatoes, making it the largest grower of tomatoes in the world. Tomato vary in size from very small, sweet cherry style and a big juicy one. Health benefits of Tomatoes: Tomato can be consumed in raw form or cooked. The cooked tomatoes such as canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, ketchup contain more lycopene because cooking breaks down cell walls, releasing and concentrating carotenoids. Eating tomatoes with a small amount of fat enables lycopene to be better absorbed. The raw form is rich in vitamin E and the cooked one contains vitamins A and C. Tomato is rich in iron and potash salts. The tomato not only thrills the taste buds and brightens the dinner table, it also helps to fight disease. Tomato is used for cooking and finds a place in our kitchen always. Shall we see what are the uses of taking tomato in our food. The tomato is a natural antiseptic. Tomato serves as a blood purifier. By taking one or two tomatoes daily, our skin texture and colour will improve. The red pigment in tomato is called as lycopene which is a powerful antioxidant which fights against cancer cells. The tomato which we take daily helps for dissolving gallstones. The vitamin K in tomato prevents hemorrhages. The nicotinic acid in tomato help to reduce blood cholesterol. For fighting against infection, tomato serves as a medicine. The problem of congestion of liver can be solved by taking tomato daily. Tomato helps us to maintain body resistance and improve immunity. By taking half ripe tomatoes, we can solve liver problems. The vitamin A in tomato is useful in all sorts of nervous disorders. To save from scurvy, tomato helps very much since it contains vitamin C. When we suffer from indigestion or heartburn, we can eat tomato to get relief. Taking too much of tomato in food should be avoided. You can think whether tomato has got medicinal value only. Not so. Tomato brings the tremendous health and beauty benefits also. In the production of anti-aging products, tomato ranks first. For preserving moisture level in the body, tomato is used. When our skin is exposed to heat or cool, the consumption of tomato helps for maintaining moisture level constantly. For oily skin, when tomato is applied on the face for 15 minutes, the extra oil will be sucked. When mixed with cucumber juice, it acts as a face mask. For dry skin, tomato with curd is to be applied to the face, to remove dryness. When we have boil or pimple, and if we apply tomato paste on it, it will soothe the pain and helps for speedy recovery. To get odour free and dandruff free hair, we can apply tomato paste on the scalp and wash after 15 minutes.
