Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. It is also one of the most ignored meals. Often people say they do not have the time to eat breakfast. This is because most working people get up just in time to get ready for work. They either go to work without eating any food, or just grab a burger or other fast foods and rush to work. This is very unhealthy. Emphasis should be laid on the importance of eating a good and healthy breakfast.

Breakfast is named so because a person eats breakfast after about eight to ten hours after the previous meal. It is actually Break Fast. A person breaks a fast by eating the breakfast in the morning. People who just eat little for breakfast do not understand this. People say that we should ‘eat like a king in the morning'.

Importance of eating a good and healthy breakfast:

1. Glucose levels: Breakfast is eaten after the longest gap between meals each day. The glucose levels in the body decrease to dangerous levels. Eating a balanced and healthy meal will help in rebalancing the glucose levels to normal. When a good and healthy breakfast is not eaten, it leads to various problems.

2. Irritability: The person is irritated because of decreased sugar levels in the body. Eating a good breakfast will help in sedating the mind and preventing the irritable behavior.

3. Headaches: Morning headaches are commonly due to the decreased food intake. A healthy breakfast will prevent this headache. This headache is due to the lack of adequate energy for the activities to be done by the person.

4. Tiredness and fatigue: People who do not have breakfast in the mornings get very tired. The fatigue is also due to the fact that there is very little energy reserves in the body for use. Stored energy is present, but readymade energy is required for adequate body function.

5. Alertness: Children and adults who do not have a healthy and adequate breakfast are less alert than those who have had a good breakfast. The decreased alertness is also due to the decreased glucose levels in the body that can be utilized. Children who do not have breakfast do not do well at school, as they are not able to concentrate. The adults who do not eat a proper breakfast have been found to be less productive at work.

This article tells of the importance of a good and healthy breakfast as a meal and also as an energy booster.
