World Heart Federation The term, -how young is your heart-, is the theme of world health day which was celebrated on 28th September of this year and every year it is celebrated on the last Sunday of September. The need for periodic medical check up is being insisted by World Heart Federation. More than 100 countries are members of this organization. They arrange for activities like medical camp by experienced doctors, stressing the need of fitness by regular exercise and yoga and by stage shows, they impart the necessity of awareness of heart diseases. The World Health Federation is a non governmental organization. It helps for prevention and control of heart diseases. They take special care of low income group people. The educational institutes and social welfare organizations also arrange for conferences and seminars to educate the students and common people. Keeping a healthy heart: It was suggested to take more of fresh vegetables and fruits to keep the doctor away. We should have brisk activities daily but we should not work with tension. We can do hard work but we should not be workaholic. The body cannot bear the excessive stress caused due to heavy work. Taking rest in between hard work is recommended. Is there any special message to women? Yes, the arteries of women are narrower for women; so they should be very careful. There is a chance of attack by coronary and heart diseases by women than men, due to this reason. Due to change in life style, the women also started taking junk food instead of normal balanced diet. They need to do regular exercise, keep away from smoking habit and alcohol and keep the mind and body fresh to guard them from cardiovascular diseases. They should control cholesterol level and take proper treatment for estrogen deficiency. The people working in software companies should also learn to work without much strain to body and mind. They should engage themselves in physical activities in between work. How to protect us from heart diseases? The increase in blood pressure may cause stroke or heart disease. This may happen even in young age. We should reduce the content of salt in daily food we take. If we notice much fat especially around the abdomen or waist, we need to check our cholesterol and blood pressure. If these are normal, action should be taken to reduce the excess weight also. The blood sugar level should also be tested to minimize the risk of heart attack. Taking eight glasses of water daily, purifies all organs in the body. The food containing saturated fat should be avoided. Instead soyabean and sunflower oils, which contain polyunsaturated fat, can be used. The omega-3 protect our heart well. The nuts, whole grains and cereals can be taken regularly. So, we need not frighten about the heart disease. If we take balanced diet and if we do regular exercise we can look after our health properly. Going for periodical medical check up and acting as per the advice of doctor is also essential to protect us from stroke and heart problems. Eating less salt, to control blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol are required, to lead a healthy life.
