A letter of recommendation is a very important document. There are many people who are asked to write a letter of recommendation. If the person is not really experienced in writing about the various traits of the person in the letter of recommendation, then the person has to make sure that they read a sample of the various letters of recommendation that are present and then write one for the letter to be more effective.

A letter of recommendation has to be written with a certain procedure and this will make it more effective. If you just write it like any other letter, then the letter may not even be a valid document for the person for whom the letter is being written. The letter is sometimes considered to be a legal document too. So the person writing the letter has to make sure that he or she knows the person about whom the letter is being written. This is because if you do not know the person fully and write something that is not true, then it can even land you in legal tangles.

The various aspects of the letter of recommendation are:

Initial introduction:

This is optional. If you are a well known person, then the initial introduction is not really needed. If you are not so well known, then it is better to have yourself introduced in the initial paragraph of the letter. The next thing that has to be written after your introduction is the purpose of the letter. The purpose can be varied. There are people who write letters of recommendation for employment and career opportunities. There are others who write these letters of recommendation to mention that the character of the person is good. The letter of recommendation may also be for a variety of reasons depending upon the need of the individual. So mentioning the purpose in the opening paragraph is very important.

Content of the letter:

The next or the second paragraph of the letter should contain the main content and the person should write about the person for whom you are recommending in this part of the letter. This part of the letter is also very important because this is what the person for whom the letter is being written finds as the true part of the letter. The details of the career / character or any other thing of the individual is written in this part. So it should be precise and simple to understand.

The conclusion:

The final part of the letter is the third paragraph of the letter and this part of the letter talks of the factors like thanking the individual for reading the letter and saying other niceties.

The letter ends with this, but it should be made sure that the letter of recommendation is not written in just a paper, but instead it should be on the official letter head of the person writing the letter. The letter should also be written in very good English because only when it is in good English will the letter look nice. So it would also be good to have the letter proof read before you sign the letter.
