The birth of a child brings great joy in every family. It is an occasion celebrated with friends and relatives. Once the euphoria of the new addition in the family gets over comes the ‘job' of naming the child. Naming a child in every community and every religion plays a major role. It is termed as baptism by some, naming ceremony by others. It is called by various other names too. Before fixing the ceremony is the hard task of the parents and sometimes the whole extended family in finding a suitable name for the child. Do not do's when selecting the name: Try not to keep a very common name : If the child has a name which three or four others in his class in school have, the child probably loses his identity in certain situations. It also tends to create confusions. So do research on finding a name which is not very common. Do not keep funny names: Children tend to become very self-conscious if their names are a bit funny. If a child named Darrel is chubby, his friends might start calling him ‘Barrel Darrel'. These kinds of names can cause a lot of pain as the child grows. Do's while naming the child Search the internet: After the advent of internet, there is information galore about every subject. If you do a search on the internet, you will have webpage filled with different names and their meanings. There is also information of the names specific to certain regions/ countries/ religions etc. So it is in fact simple if you don't mind naming the child with these names. Common practice : Another common practice is to combine half of the fathers name and half of the mothers name to name the child. For example, Anita and Nirmal named their child as Nita. Naming the second child: Many people like their children's names to rhyme with each other. If any of you have such an idea, it is better to think ahead and find suitable names to name your second child (while you are naming the first child). Other than these some other things that need to be kept in mind are : Avoid confusing name. Avoid very long or very short names. Names should be easily pronounceable.
