How to prevent a sick child from getting worseBY: Deena David | Category: Health and Fitness | Post Date: 2009-08-11
Sickness is very difficult to deal with in every family. When adults get sick, there are so many complications and difficulties in the family. These troubles double when a child in the family is sick. This article talks of the methods of dealing with sickness of a child and the course of action of the parents or the caretakers. Following these actions promptly will help in preventing a sick child from getting worse. 1. Avoid self-medications: A physician is the person who should deal with any sickness. When a child is sick, this is very important because children can get worse within minutes and the situation can go from bad to worse. Immediate consultation with a physician for any sickness in the child may help to contain the disease and prevent the child from getting worse. 2. History: The parents should be very clear on the history of the illness, because the history is very important in identifying and treating the disease. Some diagnosis can be made on the basis of the history given by the parents. This will help the physician or the Pediatrician save a lot of precious time that can help in treating the child early. 3. Thermometer: Each and every family should have a thermometer in the house. Any change in the temperature of the child can be noted easily if there is a thermometer at home. Many families bring the child only with fever that is very high. In many of these cases, the child can go into febrile seizures. This can cause major problems for the child that can even last for a lifetime. All this can be prevented if any fever is identified early and treated promptly and prevents the sick child from getting worse. 4. Record of illness: Each and every parent should have a record of any previous illness of the child ready. This plays a major role in saving time by making the physician understand the problems the child had in the past. It can also give a clue to the doctor on the method of treatment. Having proper records of past illness can save time that in turn can prevent the sick child from getting worse. 5. Allergy: Many children have some sort of allergy for some medications. If the child has already shown some signs of allergy to specific medications, the parents should note it. Any time the child is sick again and is treated by a physician, the parents have to show the reports of the allergy to the physician. This will prevent the doctor from treating the child with similar medications. This will prevent the child from getting worse. 6. Immunizations: Children need to be immunized regularly. It is always best to immunize the child on the correct date specified. If there is any delay in the immunization, it can lead to problems. If the child is sick on the day of immunization, then the physician should be told about this. Sometimes, certain illnesses can be exacerbated by the immunization. These are the most important things that every parent should know that could prevent the child who is sick from getting worse.
