There are various factors that play a role in the person keeping a New Year resolution. The first and the most important method of keeping up with your New Year resolution is to select a new year resolution that is easy and achievable. There are certain important things that play a part in the selection of a New Year resolution. There are many people who make New Year resolutions. These resolutions soon fall by the wayside as people are not able to keep up with these resolutions.

The factors that are involved in making a New Year resolution are as follows:

Specific:

The person should make a resolution that is specific. There are many people who make vague resolutions and by the end of the first month of the New Year, they do not even remember what they resolved to do or not to do. A resolution that is very specific will help the person to be able to keep up with their resolutions.

Achievable:

A person who is smoking two packets of cigarette cannot possibly stop smoking the two packs in one day and still have a normal life. This is because of the various factors like the withdrawal symptoms that can occur, unless the person has some medical help. The person should make a resolution that is achievable and this will help the person to be more confident when he sets a higher goal the next time.

Simple:

The resolution should be something that is simple and not complicated. If the person makes a complex resolution, then the person will lose heart and not adhere to the resolution that was made. There are various things that can be done to make sure that the resolution is simple. The person should try to keep a resolution that is tried out for a few days in the present year and then if it is simple enough, then the person should go ahead with it in the New Year also. This will make sure that the New Year resolution is adhered to.

A resolution that makes you a better person: Almost all people should have New Year resolutions. The New Year resolutions should be something that makes the person making the resolutions into a better person. No point trying to resolve that you are only going to fight 10 times with your wife every month from the 10 times you are doing at present. This is still bad. So try to cut down on certain things that you can do away with from your life. This will make you a better person through your resolutions.

Good New Year resolutions are something that is in the hands of the person who is taking the resolutions. There are many people who think that a resolution is something that cannot be kept up with. These people lose confidence in themselves and also in their will power because they are not able to keep up with their resolutions. To prevent this, the person should make sure that each and every resolution that they take for the New Year is simple, specific and achievable. This will make them have more confidence and increase the will power for them to keep more complicated resolutions from the next year onwards.
