Separate work and leisure:

Do not mix leisure activities with your work. Mixing business and pleasure might not be the best idea. It could cause a decreased performance in the job and might make you feel that you have not had enough leisure time. ‘Work while you work and play while you play' is a time tested adage that still holds good. Never mix the both together if you want to have a good balance between work and life. Initially it may be all right, but as time goes, you will feel that you are working even at home.

Earmark a separate time for working:

Working all the time builds up stress and can cause major health problems. It is best to fix a time to do the work. Neither do nor think of office work during leisure time. This will increase the productivity and decrease work stress. People working from home have a thin line between these two, that it is very difficult to discern when the person is working and when he is not.

Take a holiday:

Holidays are great stress busters and also help the mind to relax. It also helps you to work with renewed vigor when you are back at work. Holidays can be even a weekend trip for a hike. Longer trips can be taken once a year to improve the efficiency at work. Do not take a holiday where you spend so much of money that you have to work overtime to compensate. Make your holidays free of business phone calls and business meetings.

Do not bring work home unless absolutely necessary:

Do not make it a habit to bring your office files home to complete the work. Keep the files in the office and finish the work there. This is a major mistake that even breaks up families. If you have not been able to finish your work on time, stay back and finish it there rather than bringing the work home. Bringing the work home will make you feel that you have been working all the time. It will also make you feel that even your home is not a place to relax.

Enjoy life:

Enjoy life to the fullest, that is, within limits. Be happy and have a positive outlook. Take time off to go out with your family or friends to a restaurant. Create a positive aura about yourself. This will decrease health problems and will detoxify your body. Each day should have enough time for your leisure activities. Enjoying life will leave you contented and feel good. This in itself will help you to balance your work and life better.
