How to know if you are pregnant | Pregnancy test

Unplanned pregnancies are the most common causes of abortion. This is a high-risk procedure that can endanger the life of the woman. The best way is to prevent the pregnancy instead of taking action after pregnancy has occurred. Pregnancy can be prevented by many ways. The males can use condoms. The females can use oral contraceptive pills and other methods to prevent pregnancy. Even after using these methods, the woman may sometimes be apprehensive as to whether she is pregnant. This article tells how to know if a person is pregnant.

1. Early period: During the early stages, it is actually very difficult to know if a person is pregnant. The situation may be identified only upon visualizing the bulging abdomen of the woman.

2. First clue: The first clue to a pregnancy is the missing of the menstrual period. Menstruation does not occur normally during pregnancy. Missing a period is a good indicator of pregnancy, though it may not be a good indicator for women with irregular periods.

3. Morning sickness: Morning sickness can also be a factor that can make a person understand that she is pregnant. One of two women has morning sickness during pregnancy. Nausea and vomiting are present in women who are pregnant. This usually disappears spontaneously after the third month. For some women it may persist. So nausea and vomiting can be signs of pregnancy.

4. Changes in the body: Another indicator of pregnancy is the enlargement of the breasts. This is due to the hormonal changes that occur with pregnancy. The tissues get ready to produce milk for the baby, leading to an enlargement of the breasts.

5. Conclusive test: All the above changes are not a sure sign of pregnancy. These changes an also occur in women with various other conditions. Based on the above changes, a woman cannot said to be pregnant. The best method of knowing if you are pregnant is to undergo a pregnancy test. These tests can be done two weeks after the missed period. This test is about dependable in ninety five percent of women. The test actually evaluates a small sample of urine. These tests can be done using a strip of testing material that is available in most pharmaceutical shops. The conclusive tests though, are the tests in the laboratory of a hospital.

These are the methods of knowing if a woman is pregnant or not. Only a test under laboratory conditions is conclusive proof of pregnancy. All the other methods can indicate pregnancy and may be having a high percentage of being correct, but they may not be conclusive.
