How to invest in stocks in a bull market:BY: David Prakash Kumar | Category: Business and Finance | Post Date: 2009-06-05
Stock market investing is an art. It is not easy for anyone to just start investing and be successful. Many people would be licking their wounds inflicted by the raging bear market. For a lot of us the past few months of the years 2008 and 2009 will remain as a reminder that the world can turn upside down because of the carelessness and greed of a few people. The stock markets just seemed to be heading for bigger peaks till the great fall into the marinas trench in the first weeks of 2008. But now as there seems to be signs of recovery in the stock market and signs of economic stability, it is very important to know the intricacies of investing in the bull market. This will prevent us from again losing all our money overnight. Here are a few ideas on investing in the market as it recovers: Do not be greedy / Have a target: Sometimes set a goal for yourself. When the stock reaches that level, get out of the stock and hold your profits. Reinvesting can be done, but never hold on to a stock as it keeps rising. There can be a sudden fall any day. Have a stop loss Study the charts of the stock and learn its support levels. Do not hesitate to sell the stock when it breaches the support level. At least you will have your capital in your hands. If you just keep watching without cutting your losses, you are bound to be staring at the barrel of a shotgun. Diversify: Investing in any one sector only has a lot of risks. There can be a sudden global change in the sector and by the time you realize what is happening, you will be deep in loss. So try to diversify and have equal amount of money in different sectors. Do not chase a stock: There are people who take fancy to a particular stock and chase it as it keeps getting higher. Remember unless the company is fundamentally good, the rise is going to be capped someday and there will be a steep fall and you may be caught on the wrong foot at the peak. Keep money for a correction: Instead of putting all your money into a rally, try to keep some extra money for the day when the market has a steep correction. Corrections in bull markets should be seen as opportunities. So buy selected good stocks in bull market corrections. These tips will help if diligently followed, to make hay while the sun shines!!!!
