How to increase English vocabulary and improve your speaking skills.

The importance of English is known by all people around the world. This can be gauged by the fact that it has become one of the most common languages being spoken by people around the world.

There are various simple methods of increasing the vocabulary. The individual who wants to improve the English vocabulary and also speak in good English can follow these methods. These methods can be improved by each individual depending on the need.

1. Learn a word a day:
Each individual who wants to increase the English vocabulary can try to learn at least one new word a day. The person can start from easy English words. The person should learn how to use this new word that is learnt in a sentence. Learning to use it in a sentence can help the person to be able to understand the meaning of the word. In fact rather than just learning the word, learning its meaning will make the person more knowledgeable.

Some people who have more time on their hands can even try to learn more than one word a day. People who learn a minimum of five words a day will widen their vocabulary by thousands of words in just a year.

2. Keep remembering the words learnt:
It is not enough just to learn these words in one day. Each day try to use these new words learnt in more sentences to make you comfortable with the use of the word. In fact at the end of each month, the person can try to recapitulate all the words learnt in the previous month. This will help the person to be able to remember the words better.

3. Speak about a topic:
Talk to yourself about a particular object. Each day try to select an everyday object or activity and try to speak a few sentences in English about the activity. Simple method of doing it is to select a simple topic like your watch! Say at least 5 to 6 sentences about the watch. Similarly keep doing this for all the things that you see around you. This will help you to talk about various things spontaneously. It will also develop your oratory skills and improve your confidence.

4. Read the newspaper aloud:
Take an English newspaper or a magazine and try to read the paper aloud. This will improve your confidence to speak in English. It will also help you to pronounce the words correctly. Reading news papers are the method by which many people from non English speaking countries develop their English skills. Each time the person comes across a word that they do not know in the news paper, they should try to look it up in the dictionary and learn the word. This will help to increase the knowledge of English to a great extent.

There can may be many other methods of improving your vocabulary and also your speaking skills in English. Each person can develop their own methods that are comfortable for them. These methods will help to widen the number of words used in conversation.

Learning English by these methods have many advantages for the person. It can help the individual to be able to get better employment opportunities. It can also help them in self development of their skills.
