Social networking has been on the rise with the increased use of internet and computers. In fact, social networks have been on a rapid growth spurt in recent times. They have been expanding with millions of users joining in. Social networks help a person to keep in touch with many people and also make new friends. So when so many people use these social networks, there are bound to be many positive and negative impact of this on the people. Social networks in recent times have been highly successful in being used as a platform for various activities including job searches. The different social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, Flixter, Linkedlin, MySpace and Wikia. These are the most common networking sites. Other than these there are many others like orkut etc. Some of the sites are specific to a particular region and is not used globally. Some social networking sites like Facebook are used globally and can be an effective platform for job searches. There are a few important things that need to be kept in mind by those searching for jobs on these websites. They are as follows: 1. Do not reveal yourself till you know the person: There are so many false identities on social networking sites. Some of these people may be identity thieves. So it is better not to reveal your important details until you are sure of the authenticity of the person. 2. Be patient: As you start networking on social websites, you cannot expect instant results. This is because the potential employers may be tracking a person's activity. This will help them to form a positive opinion of the person. All this will take time. So till you have established yourself on these social websites, there may not be any response. So being patient is very important. 3. Consistency: You should be consistent in your postings. Do not ignore the site for too long, as this will dissuade potential employers. Also try to actively participate in various forums that relate to your area of expertise. 4. Careful: Be careful in what you post on your profile and also what you post on various forums as these can be used to remove you from the good books of your potential employer. These are the most important things to remember when you join a social networking site to search for jobs. These networking sites will actually be increasingly used in the future to identify potential employees, because these can be used to do background checks and also know the personality of the person.
