How to deliver a good speech in a meeting?BY: chitracs | Category: Self Improvement | Post Date: 2008-09-23
Many people speak well ordinarily about any topic but when they speak in a meeting they become nervous and could not deliver good speech. What is the reason for it? They should practice well before attending a meeting in which they are going to give a speech. They can write and memorize important points. They can start practicing before a mirror. If friends or family members can tolerate, they can ask them to listen and correct mistakes. They can refer books or surf through internet to get points for the topic.
Salutation is more important. In a meeting, first we should address chairperson, chief guest, other speakers, audience and those who organized and extended help for arranging this meeting. Even if we omit one name, we may have to face a problem. So, be very cautious. But we should not waste much time for salutation. We should reach the main topic quickly. There is no harm in introducing ourselves because all may not be knowing us well. This is the general rule. How to make our speech quite interesting to listeners is another point. We need not talk very seriously. We should not shout or modulate our voice often, in between. We should not imitate anybody in our speech. In the middle of the speech, we can use funny statement or we can tell a joke. We may even tell some interesting short stories or real incidents, relevant to the topic.
We should not forget the purpose of meeting. Our speech should concern about relevant topics only. We should make our voice gentle, sweet and bold. Our speech should not be very fast or very slow. We should take extra care about pronunciation. In some meetings like condolence meeting or some serious business meetings, the humorous talk should be avoided. We should express our feelings and ideas properly. We can reply to the questions of other speakers or audience but there should not be any argument. The controversies should be avoided. We should not speak whatever we think. We should see whether others are ready to accept it.
While attending a meeting of wedding, we have to tell the plus points of bride and bridegroom and there is no need to talk about their negative points. In the retirement party, we can talk about the good qualities of the retiring person. Sometimes, without knowing much about the person who is going to be honored, we may be asked to deliver a speech suddenly. We can collect some details about the person and talk about it. We can also mention that we don't know much about the person and wish him generally. We can summarize the speech at the end and our last sentence will reach the audience definitely. So, it should be correct and relevant to the subject.
While delivering a speech, we should not think that we are greater than others. The polite behavior is most important. Our body language and mannerism should not be irritating to others. Before beginning the speech, we can start with a smile and while ending the speech also, we should end with a smile. If we learn to speak well, we can deliver a good speech in a meeting.
