Good listening skills show care and concern. When you show caring attitude towards somebody, you make the other person feel important, happy, motivated and the other person will become more receptive to your ideas.

To become a good listener, you will have to:
* Encourage the other person's talk.

* Don't interrupt when the person is telling you something important.

* Don't change the topic.

* Show understanding and respect.

* Ask appropriate questions when needed, it will show your interest.

* Pay attention to whatever the other person is saying.

* Avoid distractions.

* Show empathy.

* Be open minded and non judgmental.

* Pay attention to the message, which is being conveyed and not on the content.

* Listen to the feelings and not to the words.

* Concentrate on the nonverbal communication: body posture, eye contact, facial expressions and gestures.
