Have you come to the end of your tether? That's the employment tether I'm talking about. If you have been through anything like me, you will know how frustrating it is to have to deal with recruitment companies, human resource managers, and other company representatives. They are basically out on a mission to fit a particular job de scription with a particular person, and very rarely stray from a precise path - one that is guarded by the "process and procedural" police. Yes, sometimes it's just not fair, or is just plain stupid that they choose not to consider you for a role, when you had 4 years experience but they were looking for 5. Well, let's just say that it's a good thing you came to the computer today. Because I want to tell you a little something about freelancing. Firstly, I will define the term. Freelancers are people who work for themselves, finds a job for themselves, and don't want or need to receive guidance from a third party. These people are happy to bounce from project to project once the previous one comes to an end, and they thrive on the excitement and diversity that it brings. Ok, so that's great - and you're probably thinking that acquiring a few freelance projects would be a great idea, as it sounds like exactly the type of thing you would be interested in. But, one nagging question remains: "how do I find a project?- Yes - that is a very good question, and one that I will attempt to answer now. There are many freelancing websites out there, where you are able to register and list your skills, in the hope that someone will see what you have to offer - and jump at the opportunity to hire a person such as yourself. That's a great way of doing it, and a lot of people like this style of employment seeking. However, for the active job hunter, the opposite may be more appropriate. Just as there are sites that you can list your details on, there are also sites for employers to list job details on, in the hope that a freelancer will apply, and possibly match exactly the person they are looking for. A simple Internet search for "freelance jobs" or a term similar will yield an array of websites that cater to freelancers specifically. Once you find a suitable list of freelance jobs, be sure to take note of any that interest you - after all, that is one of the best things about freelancing - you only take the jobs that you genuinely want. What better way to spend your working years, than by gaining experience in your industry of choice, whilst constantly refreshing the topic of your current project. Whatever your reason for seeking out freelancing jobs, I guarantee you that a freelancer can be just as successful, if not more successful, than someone who works day in and day out, from 9 to 5.
