‘Smile: It does not cost anything' is a sentence that most of us would have heard or seen somewhere. This is because smiling and laughing are positive attitudes that cause only positive effects on a person and does no harm. There are various health benefits of laughing. Some of them are long life and happiness. This article talks of the various aspects of laughing and the importance of laughter in every individual's life. Man has known the healing power of laughter since ancient times. There are various laughing clubs ad societies around the world whose members laugh everyday to keep healthy. 1. Immune system: Laughter can contribute to a stronger immune system. Studies have been done to establish the relationships between laughing and the positive effects on the immune system. 2. Coping: Laughing also increases the ability of a person to cope with various problems. This is because the laughter and the happiness associated with the laughter causes the formation of positive attitude in the person. This positive attitude helps the individual to cope with various troubles of life. Those who laugh a lot can triumphantly overcome life's challenges and stay healthy as well. 3. Stress buster: Laughter and happiness are stress busters. People who have stressful jobs need to laugh a lot to neutralize the deleterious effects of the stress. Laughing is the best antidote to the stress. Decreasing the stress by laughing decreases the risk of heart attacks. 4. Long life: Laughter not only lightens the mood of the person, but has also been found to lengthen the life of the person. This increased length of life is because of the decrease in stress related illness. It also boosts the immune system leading to decreased chances of getting ill. These have an effect on the length of life of a person. Thus laughing plays a role in increasing the life of a person. Other effects of laughter on the health of an individual: 1. It improves the mood of the person. 2. It decreases the chance of a person from getting stomach ulcers that are actually stress related illnesses. 3. It relieves the tension of the person and helps in relaxation of the muscles of the body and also relaxes the mind. 4. It helps to reduce hypertension because of the relaxing effect. 5. There is a decrease in infections because of the boost to the immune system. These are the major health benefits that are got because of laughing. Laughing also as a lot of social benefits. You have a more fulfilling life if you take time to laugh. Life will be easier to face and the person who laughs will lead a healthy life.
