Has Your Heart Been Washed

"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."
- 1 Corinthians 6: 11, King James Version

When I was very young, my Mother told me -Be sure you always have clean underwear on when you go outside in case something happens to you. You don't want people to see you wearing dirty underwear.- That is good advice. However, much more important than that is that we always make sure that our hearts are clean from the dirty sins of unforgiveness, criticism, sarcasm, hatred, jealousy and envy before we tell someone about the unconditional love of Jesus.

There is only one way to have our hearts washed from these dirty sins and that is by confessing our sins and allowing Jesus to wash our hearts with His precious cleansing and atoning blood which He shed for us on the cruel cross of Calvary. We must also allow Him to wash our mouths so that we don't curse anymore. Before I accepted Jesus as my personal Saviour, and I am ashamed to admit this, I cursed almost every day.

It might have been because I heard my Dad curse with every other word he said. However, that is not an excuse. As Dr. Billy Graham said in a sermon once -There comes a time in every person's life when he or she makes the decision to do right or wrong. Don't blame your parents for what you do wrong.- Have you been blaming your parents or someone else for what you have done or for what you do? If so, stop it and accept the responsibility for your own sins and mistakes.

We try to put the blame on satan by saying -It's not my fault because satan made me do it.- That is not true because satan does not have the power to make us do anything. All satan can do is tempt us. We are the ones who make the decision to sin. When Eve ate of the fruit of the tree in the garden, she was the one who made the choice to eat pick the fruit off of the tree and eat it. Yes, it is true that satan tempted her but she was the one who ate it.

We read in the Bible -And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that is was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat- (Genesis 3: 6). This scripture verse does not say that satan gave her the fruit; it says that she took of the fruit herself.

It is time that we stop blaming satan and our parents and other people for our mistakes and our sins. We must admit that we have sinned and confess our sins and ask God to please forgive us. Sometimes we as Christians try to convince people that we are perfect. Well, we are not perfect. We sin and make mistakes just like people who have never had their sins forgiven and washed in the blood of Jesus. Thank God for the cleansing atoning blood of Jesus that washes our hearts from the filth of our sins!
