Good eating habits in children:

Once a child is born, the mother has a major role to identify the needs of the child and satisfy it. For many mothers, making the child eat is one of the major problems. Eating habits are often set in the first few years of life. This is the time when the child's nutritional needs are met. So there are certain things that every mother should know and do to inculcate a good eating habit in the child.

The mother has to encourage the child to adopt healthy eating habits by setting a good example. Positive attitude toward nutritious foods should be increased. A variety of delicious and healthy foods should be introduced to the children. This will help in forming an eating pattern that will last for a lifetime.

Some of the things that should be done to increase good eating habits in children are:

1. Set an example:
The mother or the father should set an example. Most children like to copy their parents in many activities. The child usually copies the parents eating habits too. Parents and especially mothers should share mealtimes with their children and share the same healthy meals.

2. Discourage snacking: Snacks kill the appetite and also makes the child form an unhealthy pattern of eating. Junk foods especially should be avoided between meals. Instead, healthy fruits like carrots and fruits can be given to children between meals.

3. Natural appetite: Children may have a natural appetite and they may like to eat at different times. The parents should try to control this and formulate a pattern. This will create order in the food habits of children.

4. Fruits and Vegetables: As much as five portions of fruits and vegetables can be given to children. This will make them healthier. Different varieties of fruits or vegetables can be given to children. This will help them to enjoy the food.

5. Make food at home: Parents should also try to make food at home and eat it. This will encourage homemade food. Invite the children to cook with you. This will help them to learn cooking and also encourage them to try out different foods that will be healthy. Eating out may be good once in a while, but regularly eating out increases the risk of obesity and other complications.

These are the things that mothers have to know and implement in their houses to increase the good eating habit in their children
