How does GPS work?
GPS satellite system consists of 24 satellites that orbit round the earth that send radio signals to earth that contain information about the satellite. The GPS receivers uses these signals to determine the receivers position showing the latitude, longitude and height (3D position). GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a GPS satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Basically, the users position is calculated from distance measurements to satellites. GPS receiver can calculate other information like distance to destination, time to reach the destination etc with the distance information from few more satellites. The the GPS receiver displays all the available information on the the screen of the device.
