Watercolor painting has its origin from the generation where men led a barbarous life. Though men did not live a respectable life their ignorance made them live feeding on nature , yet they painted and watercolor painting has its origin from there. their paintings were usually that of animals, hunting animals etc. The paints they owned were made of leaves, vegetable etc.

Why is watercolor painting so popular:
Water color painting is very common and one of the widely sold and accepted art. The main reasons being that it is water soluble, which is an ease to an artist. As it dries up quickly the artist can finish a painting within three hours [20-20 inch]. Cleaning of the brushes etc is easier compared to other medium. It avoids the use of harmful chemicals such as turpentine, kerosene and other oils required in oil painting, where many artist suffer from the odour left. Therefore watercolor painting is pleasant to use and is a clean medium.

This could be one of the reasons why we find kids exposed to watercolor painting after wax crayons. Colors are mixed with water to get the desired tone, eg. Red mixed with water gives pink. Therefore it's important to know how much of water is required to get the exact tone.

Having fun with watercolors:
Water has its own play. The water spreads and applies the color, merges with another color, Thus leaving few sides lighter in shade. Since water dries fast it is important that colors have to be applied quickly as layers. Only the family colors can be applied when wet else the color turns dirty. Unlike in oil and acrylic painting corrections cannot be made here by applying paint to cover the mistake. Hence it is important that the artist plans the painting and starts painting with full confidence.

Requirements for watercolor painting:

Artist watercolor tubes or pans are best. Watercolor painting is done in paper, a special paper which can absorb water. It cannot be supported by easels.
