There have been instances where quarrels took place because of people changing their religion. In India everybody has the right to follow the religion of their choice and have the freedom of changing religion. But in rare cases efforts have been made to bring convert people to one religion by bribery in the form of money, land etc. So, most of the conversion of religion has been considered to have been done in this way. However, this is not true, a lot of people change their religion for several other personal reasons as well.

When the conversion of religion is done by the high profile people, people do not dare to oppose it. There have been instances like Michel Jackson adopting to Islam, Architect of Indian constitution Dr. B. R. Ambedkar accepting Buddhism, etc but there were no opposition made against them by the people. But when a common person changes his religion there comes the matter of quarrels and opposition. Even in the cases of inter-cast marriages amongst the common people, it is being widely opposed but when the same thing happens in the high profiled society, it has not been opposed by anybody. Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan married a Hindu girl and Hrithik Roshan married at Muslim girl. There decisions were not questioned by any body then why has the common man always have to be answerable for all their acts.

Does it mean that our society allows only high profiled people to practice and marry from any religion they wish? Can't a layman practice any religion of his or her choice and choose a life partner from any religion the he wishes to?

This should not be the situation. There should be an open mindedness in our society about allowing to practice any religion and to marry from any religion. Before we protest and oppose about such things, we need to study about the reason why a person has embraced a particular religion. After all, religion is a need to get peace of mind, its a belief and a form of worshiping god. If a person is not comfortable with one religion and has faith in some other religion, he should have the freedom to changing religion and pracising the religion of his choice. It does not mean that he is rejecting or disgracing the religion which he has left, its just that he has stronger faith in the religion that he wants to adopt. Changing or converting of religion is the personal choice of each individual and no body should oppose it.
