There are a lot of people who are either drug addicts or those who are substance abusers. These people use various drugs including cocaine, marijuana and other such drugs. These drugs have the ability to cause considerable damage to the body of the person who is on drugs. This is because the drugs make the person to get addicted to it and also causes chemical reactions to take place in the body. Other than the chemical reactions, the person will also have some temporary as well as permanent changes in the various organs of the body.

The various factors that determine the time for which the drugs can stay in the body are:

1. The amount of drug taken in:

If a person consumes a lot of drugs, then it can cause the person to have the drug cause various problems for a longer period of time. If the person has consumed only a small quantity of the drug, it will stay in the body for a lesser time.

2. The type of drug consumed:

There are certain drugs that can be expelled from the body only with great difficulty. These drugs are more dangerous. Other drugs are present and these drugs are easily expelled from the body. The difference is in the type of the drug that is taken in by the person.

3. The intensity or strength of the drug consumed:

There are certain drugs that are stronger if they are in the pure form. Example for this kind of drug is cocaine. The drug that has more strength will stay in the body for a longer period of time. If the strength of the drug is less, then it will stay in the body for a lesser period of time.

4. The duration for which the drug was consumed:

Some people are addicted to the drug and have been using it for a longer period of time. In these people, the drug stays on in the system for a longer period of time.
5. The metabolic rate of the person:

The metabolic rate also plays a role in the duration for which the drugs that are consumed can stay in the body of the person. If the person has a slow metabolism, then the drug will stay in the body for a longer period of time and if the person has a metabolic rate that is quite fast, then the drug will be expelled from the body.

6. The age of the person:

The age also plays a role in the duration of the drug staying on in the body of the person. If the person is older, then the drug will stay for a longer period of time.

All these factors together cause a cumulative effect on the duration for which the drug stays in the body. The longer the drug stays in the body, the more damage it can do to the various organs in the body. So a person should try to reduce the amount of drug that is taken and slowly stop the drugs.
