Nuts have been considered as foods that were the cause of many diseases like cholesterol and heart attacks. Some recent research has shown the importance of nuts in maintaining good health. In fact many diets now include different types of nuts to be part of their diet to reduce weight.

There are many nuts that can be consumed. In fact they are one of the most nutritious and healthy vegetarian food. They contain many nutrients and minerals that increase the health benefits they offer. Some of the common nuts that can be consumed for their health benefits are walnuts, peanuts, almonds, cashew nuts and pecans.

Nuts have a lot of calories. They also have a balanced source of various nutrients that include a large amount of protein. This protein helps in tissue repair and also helps to reduce the weight of the person. Nuts are also generally a good source of mono-unsaturated fats. This helps to decrease the risk of sudden death due to cardiac arrest. It also helps to reduce the levels of cholesterol in the blood. Regular consumption of nuts as part of the diet has been shown to reduce the levels of low density Lipoprotein which is the bad cholesterol. This improves the cardiac health of the individual. This is one of the important health benefits of eating nuts.

Nuts also help in reducing the weight of the person in more than one way. Eating nuts before taking food can make the person feel full and it will help to reduce the intake of food. Another method by which nuts help to reduce obesity is because it is loaded with protein. All diets that promise to reduce obesity are loaded with proteins. This makes nuts very important in reducing the obesity.

Some of the most common nuts and their health benefits are:

1. Walnuts:

Walnuts are a very good source of omega-3 essential fatty aids. These acids themselves have many health benefits that help to prevent many diseases. They help to protect the heart from getting decreased blood supply that can lead to heart attacks. Walnuts also prevent various diseases like the inflammatory diseases of the bones and skin. These diseases may include psoriasis, eczema and also various types of arthritis. Walnuts like many other nuts also have antioxidant properties that help to prevent diseases like cancer.

2. Almonds:
Almonds are one of the richest sources of different minerals. Almonds contain minerals like potassium, manganese, copper and calcium. The almonds like walnuts have high content of monounsaturated fats that prevent various diseases like cardiac disease. Almonds also contain Calcium that helps in bone build up and prevent diseases like osteoporosis.

3. Cashew nuts:
Cashews are a very rich source of minerals like in magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. They also have very low content of fat than most other nuts. This makes them very useful in preventing various diseases.

There are many other nuts that provide health benefits that include hazelnuts and chestnuts. Like any other food that has health benefits, nuts also should not be consumed in large amount as it can lead to some problems. One serving of nuts per day is adequate for a person to derive all the health benefits.
