Dieting is the most popular procedure women adopt to lose weight and become slim & sexy. Well it is very important that you should consult a doctor before you decide what is right for you. Eating right food combined with proper exercise can literally do wonders. Dieting does not mean huge cutbacks in food. its mainly about what you eat, you should be smart about your weight loss initiative.

1. Don't let your dieting get boring:
Instead of trying to lose weight fast, try to do it slowly and steadily. Making immediate and extreme cutbacks in your diet plan is not good for your body as well as the stress of drastic change in lifestyle can let down your enthusiasm in just a few weeks. I believe that one should target getting into a good shape in atleast 9 months to 1 year time. It is advisable to treat yourself lightly every once a week to keep your mind entertained for a good Weight loss program. For example instead of having 1-2 scoops of ice cream, just have half scoop.

2. Eating slowly will boost your dieting efforts:
When we are hungry, we tend to eat quickly and by the time our body signals indicate us that you are full, we have usually over eaten. A classic example of losing weight by eating slowly are the French people, their meals (lunch and dinner) can sometimes last for 1-2 hours. I am not suggesting you to take that long but 20-30 minutes is a good time.

3. Take smaller portions:
This is a great tip to Lose weight by dieting, take smaller portions of meals. If we think that we need 2 slices of bread in breakfast, thats fine, but bread slices come in all sorts of sizes and thickness. You may be better off by taking thinner or smaller loaf of bread. Similarly, you need not put huge quantity of butter on it, apply a thinner layer instead.

4. Count your calories:
A normal person needs about 2000 calories a day, a person who is dieting can lessen the intake of calories by 1500 to 1300 calories. You should be aware of nutritional value of everything you eat. Watching your calories will greatly assist you to lose weight.

5. Cut down on SUGAR:
Sugar gives us instant energy and therefore our body loves it in any form. We should know that cakes, biscuits, pies, soda/cold drinks and candies are loaded with sugar. You cannot lose weight successfully without taking less quantity of sugar. Therefore mark my words, if you are dieting do not consume excessive sugar.

6. Eat right and eat lot of fruits:
This is the MOST IMPORTANT factor for a successful weight loss. Lets take an example, one scoop of ice cream has more calories than several fruits. If you like taking milk then instead of taking regular (full fat milk), take reduced fat/skimmed milk. Dieting means being smart about it, you can eat more quantity of food with far less number of calories than the quantity of food you currently consume.

7. Drink water and lose weight:
Water fills our belly pretty fast and it has several other advantages for our body. Instead of drinking soda, drink 7-8 glasses of water everyday.

8. Avoid fast food:
Fast food restaurants will put all sorts of cheese, fries items and other fatty ingredients to make food tasty. Low quantities of fast foods can have amazingly high amounts of calories. Again if you want to be smart about dieting and your weight loss, select carefully whatever you order. For example if you are ordering burger then tell them not to put cheese and no mayonnaise ( or keep it light). When eating salads, keep the level of dressings in low quantities. Avoid french fries and try going to healthier restaurants like the Subway restaurants.

9. Cut down on meats (especially red) and alcohol:
Alcohol reduces our ability to make good judgement and we tend to eat more, also most veggies have less calories than non-veg items. When you eat eggs, reduce the yellow yokes.

10. Additional things apart from eating habits that should be considered for successful dieting and weight loss are:
- Walk around, start playing outdoors and do exercises regularly.
- Reduce stress in life.
- Drastically cut the time you spend on TV, internet and video games.
- Cook food at home.
- Sleep well.
