Many people are underweight either due to choice or because they are not able to put on a lot of weight. The obese people always think that these people who are lean and underweight are lucky. This may not always be the case. Just as obesity can cause various diseases, the lack of weight or underweight people can also be prone to various diseases.

The chance of disease increases if the person is dieting to reduce the weight. This article gives a list of diet guidelines that will help to prevent diseases in those who are lean and under weight.

Diet guidelines for those who are underweight:

1. Balanced diet:
Each meal that is being eaten by the person who is lean should be balanced. This balance in the food is more important for those who are under weight than those who are over weight. The diet should include nutrient rich food that will fortify the person against any diseases. Lack of food and malnutrition can lead to decreased immunity and an increase for the chance of various diseases.

2. Meal frequency: The individual who is lean can increase the frequency of meals. The increase in the number of meals that the person is taking will help to increase the weight of the person. The food that is taken in should also be rich. It should contain foods that are healthy, but have more energy for the body.

3. Feeds: Two feeds incorporating soups , juices or a sweet in between major meals improves the nutritive value of the diet. This will also increase the actual calorie intake by the person and help in increasing the weight.

4. High calorie foods: High calorie foods like cream, butter, ghee, margarine and oils are very helpful in increasing the weight of the person who is suffering from weight loss and are under weight. You can gain weight, but one should be careful as these foods can increase cholesterol too.

5. Amount of food: The amount of food that is consumed by the person should increase. This will help to increase the calorie intake and in turn help to build the persons muscles. When the persons muscles are built up, the person's weight will increase and the chance of disease decreases with increased immunity.

6. Fluids and water: Fluids should not be taken before or with a meal. The best time to take fluids is after meals. This is because if the person takes water before food, then the food intake will decrease. This is the main reason underweight and lean people are not advised to drink water before or during meals.

7. Nutritional supplements: These are necessary because a lean or underweight person may also be malnourished. Additional nutritional supplements that include vitamins and minerals are very important to decrease the risk of disease in the person.

8. Diet: The overall diet of the lean and underweight person should be a high calorie, high protein, high fat diet with adequate nutrients that include essential vitamins and minerals. This will help him gain weight. The balanced diet can be planned for individual needs by a trained nutritionist or a dietitian.

These are the various methods of increasing the weight of the person who is lean and under weight. As the weight and the muscle bulk increases, the person becomes healthier. This will decrease the risk of various diseases that can occur if the individual is lean and unhealthy.
