Most people consider cycles (or Bicycles)as one of the worst modes of transport. This is because it is slow and the rider has to make a lot of effort to ride it. This may be true to an extent, but in the recent days, there has been a resurgence in the use of cycles. The number of cyclists has been increasing.

This is not a unusual phenomenon. In fact cycle is one of the best inventions of man. There are a number of advantages for cyclists and cycling is also good for health. Listed below are a few of the advantages of cycles and cycling over other modes of transport.

1. Save money: The first advantage of using cycles as modes of transport is that it helps you cut down on your fuel expenses. You will be able to save quite a lot of money if you cycle instead of taking your car for work.

2. Helps you exercise: Cycling is one of the best forms of aerobic exercise. It is in fact better than walking or jogging. It also improves the muscle bulk in your lower limbs. It helps to improve the cardiovascular endurance.

3. Parking: Cycles need less space for parking. This is a great help in cities where parking space is one of the most rare commodities. In fact cycles can be kept leaning against the wall.

4. Cheap: Cycles are also not very expensive to purchase. Compared to other vehicles, cycles are very cheap to purchase. So each family can have even one cycle for each person.

5. Traffic: For those traveling by cycles, going from one place to another in crowded areas is easier than taking a larger vehicle like a car.

6. Pollution: Using a cycle helps control the pollution. You can be happy in the fact that you are doing your part in controlling pollution and keeping the environment safe by using cycles.

7. Safe: Cycles are relatively safe if you ride it carefully. Most cities have paths for cyclists. Riding the cycle in these paths help you to ride safely.

These are that major advantages of cycles. Governments can provide incentives for cycle users. It should also make a separate path for cyclists in main roads. This will help more people to use cycling as a mode of transport.

In fact France is one country that is in the forefront of advocating use of cycles. It has established chains of outlets where people can borrow cycles and replace in another outlet. The country's citizens as well as tourists use this facility.
